PROFILE
David will be one of the artists featured in the 2nd Animal EARTh Exhibition
to be held at Willington Hall Hotel, Cheshire CW6 0NB, 16th – 24th October 2010
Cheshire Wildlife
Artist David A. Finney has had a lifelong interest in
Natural-History, and a particular passion for British birds. In
1988 he was delighted to receive his first commission from the
RSPB for a set of Christmas cards. It was the
ornithological seal of approval he had been looking for.
Throughout the
1990's, his one-man touring exhibition graced venues from the
Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust’s Whitbread Gallery at Martin Mere to the
Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. Autumn 2011 will see his solo show ‘Seasonal Colours’ fill the Cheng-Kim Loke Gallery at WWT headquarters, Slimbridge.
Since 2003, David
has been involved with the National Exhibition of Wildlife
Art and recently joined the organising committee. He is a member of the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society and also regularly exhibits with the Natural World Art Group, in Norfolk.
In almost 20 years
as a professional artist, David’s work has been reproduced on
collectors-plates, by Spode and Danbury Mint,
as well as on hundreds of greetings-cards for organisations
such as the RSPB, Worldwide Fund for Nature
and The Romansleigh Collection. He has
also recently illustrated three children's books: ‘Rosie and the Wand’ and ‘Poggin Tails’ by Nick Copper and 'Hungry Horatio; the short-sighted goat' by Lynne Bradbury.
David lives and
works in the south Cheshire village of Alsager.
“Although I
work in acrylics, I think of my paintings
essentially as watercolours”, says David.
“Each is built up in layers; from the thin
washes of the background to the fine details
in the main subject. I draw my inspiration
from the countryside around me and trust my
appreciation of it shows through in my work”.
